MEET THE PRESIDENT: ASAD ali
Welcome to the official Barts and The London Dental Society website!
Our Society was set up in 1912 to cater to the welfare, social and academic needs of our students, which is of paramount important to us every year.
Over the past 12 months, we have taken massive strides towards improving the student experience at our prestigious institute through social media, charitable activities, merchandise, memorable events and much more!

Our efforts were recognised by Queen Mary Students' Union who saw fit to award us with the prize of “Society of the year” and “Committee member of the year”! We were the only society to have won this, and there are over 200+ societies at Queen Mary!
As this year’s President, I will do everything in my power to continue and expand on the amazing work of our incredible society. Some of my personal ambitions will be to enhance the number of digital academic resources available, host our very first careers fair and making our society more inclusive! |

AWARD WINNING SOCIETY
At the 2018 Union's Societies Awards, the Dental Society acheived the highest accolade that any student group can win. We acheived the Gold Award!!!
Credit to all the amazing work done by the dedicated and passionate 2017/18 Dental Society committee for this amazing achievement.
The award consists of 7 categories. Within each category, there are 4 levels that can be completed; Recognition, Bronze, Silver and Gold. We acheived Gold in all seven categories, with an almost perfect score of 26/28. The Dental Society was the highest scoring student group in the whole university, and we are one of the first ever groups to win Gold!
Here are the categories:
Engagement- This category recognises your commitment and engagement with procedures, policies and democratic structures of the Union and additional opportunities provided by the Union.
Participation- This category recognises your commitment to equality, diversity, your ability to engage students as well as the steps you take to widen participation. Alongside ensuring a duty of care is given to members.
Activity - This category recognises your ability to fulfil your own aims and objectives as well as the quality of opportunities you provide for students.
Committee - This category recognises your ability to effectively complete operational tasks associated with running your activity group.
Marketing - This category recognises your ability to promote your own group and its activities and the effort you make to utilise marketing resources provided by the Union.
Finance - This category recognises your ability to successfully plan and manage your budget as well as the steps you take to ensure the financial sustainability of the group.
Performance- This category recognises your hard work in reaching outstanding levels of performance throughout the year, recognised both within the Union and on external platforms.

At the 2019 Societies Awards, our previous President Ameen Daywood won the top individual award for Committee Member of the Year.
This fantastic achievement is special, since these awards are open to any student in the whole university!
It is awarded to a Principal Officer who has gone above and beyond in their role for their society. The individual winner should stand out from the crowd in their commitment to their society, engagement with the society members and engagement with QMSU and BLSA.

Since we are based in London, we benefit from being based in one of the greatest cities in the world! Everything is right on our doorstep, so it is an incredible place to spend 5 years studying as a student, during the prime of your life. There's so much London has to offer, and of course we aren't just dental students working towards achieving a BDS qualification - our dental students are always encouraged to embrace the City life and go out exploring the various cafes, restaurants, art galleries, theatres, parks and to simply get in and amongst the hustle and bustle, enjoying the beautiful architecture (old and new)!
